Suspicious lesions are abnormal growths or areas on the skin that may indicate the presence of skin cancer or other severe conditions. These lesions can appear anywhere on the body and have various characteristics, such as unusual size, shape, color, and texture. What makes a lesion suspicious?

There are several types of suspicious lesions that have various characteristics that may indicate danger. Common lesions include:

• Moles – Moles are common skin growths that can be either benign or malignant. Suspicious moles are typically irregular in shape, have uneven coloring, or have an irregular border.
• Basal Cell Carcinoma – Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that typically appears as a raised, pearly bump on the skin. It can also appear as a flat, scaly, or reddish patch.
• Squamous Cell Carcinoma – Squamous cell carcinoma is another type of skin cancer typically appearing as a scaly, red patch or a firm, raised bump. It may also have a rough or crusted surface.
• Melanoma – Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that often appears as a new or changing mole. Suspicious melanomas are typically irregular in shape, have uneven coloring, or have an irregular border.

What causes suspicious lesions?

Various factors, including genetic mutations, environmental factors, and lifestyle factors, can cause cancerous lesions. These elements can all combine to cause the abnormal growth and division of cells. While there is nothing that can be done about genetic predisposition, certain lifestyle choices like wearing sunscreen daily can minimize your risk of developing lesions.
